This design won an ACTF First place award in Scenic Design.
Megan Dillingham wasn’t the only Kansas University student who did well at the regional Kennedy Center/American College Theatre Festival in Ames, Iowa. Two graduate students in the scenography program won prizes.
Nathan Hughes won first place in the graduate scenic design category for his set design for “Oklahoma!,” staged by University Theatre in November.
William Nelson Jr. won third place in the graduate costume design category for his costumes in the upcoming University Theatre production of “Way of the World,” to be staged in March at KU.
Delbert Unruh, director of University Theatre, said Hughes and Nelson continue KU’s long tradition of designers ranking high in the competition. Over the past 18 years, 25 KU undergraduate and graduate design students have won 57 KC/ACTF awards.
Melissa Shimokovitz, another Irene Ryan nominee representing English Alternative Theatre, advanced to the semifinal round. Her acting partner was Damon Classen, a fellow theater major.
